Planning Distance Learning
A unit in a module aimed at academic staff in the Faculty of Health of Leeds
Beckett University who were preparing to engage with distance learning courses.
The module was led by Principal Lecturer Mick Young, myself and Rob Shaw. I was
responsible for designing and teaching this Unit. I include the main materials
extracted from the Blackboard learn module.
- Fred and Fran (Powerpoint format, 18.3 MBytes)
This is an audiographic lecture presented at the start of the unit which
asks participants to think about how differing approaches to teaching on
campus might translate to distance taught courses. The presentation was
followed by an (asynchronous) group dicussion.
- Key texts in Education (Powerpoint format, 67 MBytes)
This presentation provides a brief overview of several key texts in

view on the ways in which they apply to distance learning.
- A Learning Design Pattern (MS Word 134 kBytes)
I created this document originally for a team of Psychology lecturers who
were planning to provide a distance taught optional mode for their MA in
Interdisciplinary
Psychology. It was presented to participants in this module for them to
critique.
